Your Birth Story

Amelia Bedelia...
Earlier in the day I had a routine appointment and I was dilated to a 4.5 but had not felt any contractions.  At 10:45 pm, I woke up to go to the bathroom an heard a small but audible "pop: and felt a gush of fluid.  I went to bathroom, still leaking fluid.  Bridget was asleep on the floor next to our bed and she woke up to the commotion.
I called my visiting teacher, Tiffany Olds, to come stay with the big kids and then called Dr. Harrison to let her know we were headed to the hospital.
We got to the hospital around 11:15 pm and I was dilated to a 7 but was still not feeling any contractions.  After an hour that included a few minimal contractions, I was dilated to a 7.5.
Because I was not making much progress or feeling anything but was so dilated, we opted for a small dose of pitocin to hopefully speed up the progress.
At 1:15 am, a small dose of pitocin was administered and I started to actually feel painful contractions.  With the pitocin, I had to have your heart rate monitored but the monitor would not stay on my belly while I was working through contractions so Dr. Harrison wanted to put a small one on your head.
When I would lay down for her to insert the heart rate monitor, contractions hurt immensely in my lower back.  After three tries, the monitor would not remain on.
Dr. Harrison suggested you may be laying face down instead of face up so I rolled to my side to help you turn and make things more comfortable and possible to put the monitor on you.
After I rolled to my side, I felt you turn, felt a pop and a gush and Dr. Harrison told me to push!  I did not feel the absolute need to push like I did with the other kids, my four contractions and hard pushes later, our beautiful baby Amelia was born!
We decided to not find out if you were a girl or a boy before you were born and the surprise was incredible.
Immediately after you were born I got to snuggle you on my chest and you were absolutely beautiful and perfect.  I love everything about you!
While the doctor and nurses were checking you out, Dr. Harrison realized you were tongue tied so she quickly clipped your frenulum and you never had any issue nursing as a result.
Carter and Bridget were so excited to meet you when they woke up that they arrived at the hospital around 6:30 in the morning!  They absolutely adore you and were so sweet when meeting you.
You and I spent about 36 hours in the hospital and went home Sunday.
I love you more than you will ever know!
Love,
Mom
